Draco,

The next time you attempt to bring a bundle of joy into this world, I think it would be wise for you to discuss with your nixiecidal fertility specialist other living creatures to murder. Something less sentient. A very large salmon perhaps? Because when a salmon ends up quivering on top of little clumps of rice, other salmon don't congregate and wonder about its disappearance.

They are wondering? They are congregating?

I didn't ask him to kill anything.

According to my source, yes. And they are very concerned.

Nonetheless a nixie had been killed for you.

We don't know that. And frankly I don't want to know that.

But I do want to know if they are congregating.

Is your source sure? Reliable?

Yes.

Circe.

As if things weren't complicated enough. They are certainly complicated enough. Even without the chickens.

Is there anything more? What was said apart from "congregating"?

Chickens? Are you killing them now?

My source felt that the mood was tense.

Blaise. That is a little harsh, don't you think?

Is it? Draco, my tone is the last thing you should be concerned with right now.

Well, it's not.

There is little I can do about much of anything right now, so do forgive me if one thing I do not want is my dearest friend's contemptuous outrage.

If you won't remove you and your family away from Lake Cottage. Steps need to be taken to increase security. You'll have to tell Potter.

I can't. I can't do either of those things.

You could leave out the part about Scorpius and tell Potter about the nixie. As you said, you are practically blameless in its death.

I am sure his anger will be tempered by tender gratitude at your attempt to give him his heart's desire.

People are never that logical. He will blame me and... things are still too new.

I need to deal with this myself. I am not wholly incompetent, whatever anyone thinks.

You are certainly very competent at getting into trouble, then persisting along the same lines and digging yourself in even deeper.

I see.

And this, you think, is the extent of my capacity? I should just run and hide behind Harry, then, should I? Or Severus? Or you? Lucius, perhaps?

I've survived well enough on my own before now.

It would be amazing if it weren't for the fact that it's utterly tiresome how you can manage to turn everything into a questioning of your ability.

Let me see if I can the explain the situation in way that you can understand. Nixies. Angry. Attack.

I am not an idiot, Blaise, however much it pleases you to think I am.

I am the one who has lived in fear of them for years since I incurred a life-threatening debt to them saving people whom everyone is pleased to assume are more competent than me in every respect. I lived in fear of them even when NO ONE believed me that I should. I have killed one myself in self-defense.

So you can stop trying to glower and patronise at the same time thank you very much.

I don't have to answer to you either. Or have plans ready when you think I should, especially when you yourself know I have just received new information.

Thank you for the information from your friend. Thank you for dragging yourself from your permanent sulk enough to assist me. And of course I am terribly sorry to have subjected you yet again my sordid idiotic affairs.

Tantrums.

My life, Blaise. My children's lives.

I am not throwing a tantrum, I am refusing to be treated like a naughty and particularly dense child.

Goodnight. I am terribly sorry to have caused you such inconvenience.
